I think that 'getting up and leaving' an interview is a good idea when confronted with an interview that is crass. It's all in the spectrum I
suppose you might say... Mr. Aiken is one who has been saddled with
the 'gay' moniker and it's interesting how quickly it grows. The history
of public life is to be circumspect, but with the culture growing beyond
its old borders their is a difficult new step for those who somehow find
themselves famous.

Tomas I will say it has to do with a cultural shift that lowered our respect for traditional institutions (and the institution of celebrity used to enjoy privacy as did politicians and sports stars, regardless of their "private" actions); a development in the upbringing and education of children of the boomers that encouraged and invited them to be stars and be aggressive with their opinions - which we also demand of our media run by these same children as adults;what happens when we bring our super human idols down to our human level - they're our equal and we can attack (ridicule, criticise, laugh at, etc) them.

that's interesting, but the problem with that in Clay's case is that wasn't the first time Clay had been asked nor was it the first time he's responded.

As early as 2003 and earlier he had been asked and had responded with not - gay in many different ways(. Rolling Stone interview in 2003 was probably the most notable.)he had at that point been answering for four years, so This was a culmination of nearly four years of being asked and responding, and with new tabloid interest he chose to challenge in the manner he did, so the tactic in this particular instance was only one of many responses over the years.
Still, an iteresting look but my question is, why has journalism gotten so Nasty and invasive? why has our culture changed for the worse and we must now depend on sensationalistic gossip as our news.

Fantastic post. I'm beginning to come to terms with this phenomenon. I
wouldn't dare do things I did without even flinching a few years back.
I think my depth perception is undergoing experiential adjustment.
